Introduction to DJing
1 Day · Group ClassAbout This Program
Mixroom is a one-day group class designed to give anyone with a curiosity for DJing a real, hands-on introduction to the craft. No prior experience required — just an open ear and the willingness to get behind real DJ equipment.
The session is collaborative and high-energy. We start with the theory — tempo, BPM, beatmatching, and how a DJ structures the arc of a set — then move immediately into practice on CDJs and a DJ mixer.
By the end of the day, you'll have mixed your first tracks, understand the layout and function of DJ equipment, and have a clear picture of what it would take to develop this further through Mixroom Mastery.
Curriculum
Understanding beats per minute, how to identify the tempo of any track, and why it's the foundational language of DJing.
The core skill of syncing two tracks by ear — using pitch faders, tempo sliders, and listening for phase alignment.
A full walkthrough of CDJs, DJ mixers, and the signal chain — every knob, fader, and button explained in plain language.
How to think about energy levels over the course of a DJ set — building, holding, and releasing tension through track selection.
Live practice on real DJ equipment with guided instruction — everyone gets behind the decks and makes their first real mix.
A clear overview of Mixroom Mastery — the 6-session 1-on-1 track that picks up exactly where this class leaves off.
